Priority to Get the Powers and Funding Needed for Toronto to Succeed

Council's Goals

  • Powers and autonomy appropriate to Canada’s 6th largest government

  • Appropriate and stable revenue sources that match the levels and types of services we are expected to provide

  • A fairer distribution of services and funding responsibilities between orders of government

This priority continues Council’s previous approval and direction for advocating an improved legislative framework for Toronto, accessing additional sustainable financial resources, obtaining a ‘seat at the table’ for matters that significantly impact the City and arranging a more appropriate allocation of resources and responsibilities among the orders of government.  Collectively these reforms have become known as a “New Deal” for cities.
