Dateline June 2005 - The Franklin Children’s Garden -
  This exciting new garden for kids and families opened on the Toronto Islands. Inspired by Franklin the Turtle, the celebrated series of books written by Paulette Bourgeois, illustrated by Brenda Clark and published by Kids Can Press, the garden is a special place to play in, to discover nature, and to enjoy the great adventure of learning.

- Support our Veterans - City Council unanimously approved a motion to offer free municipal parking in Toronto for the rest of 2005 to war veterans who drive a vehicle with a veterans' licence plate. The decision coincides with the federal Year of the Veteran, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War - Victory in Europe (VE) Day - on May 8, 1945.

- Defibrillation Stations - City Council approved expanding the City's Public Access Defibrillation program for the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest at City workplaces and public facilities. All City divisions will be encouraged to include defibrillators and related employee training in their 2006 operating budgets.

Uncovering Toronto’s History - City Council approved procedures to screen properties for archeological resources before new development. The screening mechanism is an interim measure to prevent the possible loss of archeological sites between now and 2007, when Toronto's archeological master plan is expected to be completed. About 75 per cent of the city's area has potential for archeological sites, some of them dating back more than 10,000 years.
